C.O. Rosenius was considered the greatest influence upon Scandinavia. He was called the man who could touch hearts. No Swedish devotional writer resembles Luther more than he. He wrote like a theologian but was really a layman. It appears when he was deeply awakened at age fourteen, he was reading heavy books like "The Mirror of Faith" written by Danish bishop, Dr. Erik Pontoppidan.
He was thrown into deep doubting and rescued out of it by God thoroughly showing rationalism can be overpowered and overthrown by Christianity. He was very devout and burdened by his fellows who lived loose lives. There were laws forbidding unconventional prayer meetings, but he was able to get the law repealed.
He held a column in the Pietist newspaper. These became daily devotional works and were some of his most valued works. These meditations for every day of the year are put into two volumes. I recommend these books because they save time but are deep and enriching for mental and spiritual growth.
He was instant in season and out of season and ready to aid in good causes and become all things to all men to win some to Christ. He was instrumental in writing hymns that called to the heart the great love of Jesus to sinners. In the hymn he speaks of Jesus a friend so patient, kind, and forbearing.
